wcbn-rp-16-4-mcmanis-family4RIPON, CA — Ron and Jamie McManis, fourth generation farmers, announced at a recent national sales meeting that 100 percent of their producing vineyards are now Certified Green and Sustainable under the Lodi Rules program.
The Lodi Rules program has grown considerably since its establishment in 2005. As of 2016, over 36,500 winegrape acres are “Certified Green” in California. Within the Lodi region, nearly 24,000 acres have been certified and over 12,500 acres were certified in other regions throughout California. With almost 3,000 acres in production, McManis Family Vineyards can boast that they represent almost nine percent of all “Certified Green” vineyards in California. Ron McManis stated, “Jamie and I are very proud of our vineyards and our staff who have made this possible. Our son-in-law Dirk Heuvel has spent countless hours on this process, over the last several years, and our company has dedicated tremendous resources to our certification, as we believe that it’s important for all of our customers to see what
kind of a company we are.”
The Lodi Rules certification has two key components. First, the Lodi Rules promotes winegrape grower adoption of 101 sustainability practices. The standards were collaboratively developed by a team of Lodi winegrape growers and viticulture professionals, and were accredited by Protected Harvest in 2005. The second key component of the Lodi Rules is the Pesticide Environmental Assessment System
(PEAS), which is unique to the Lodi Rules. PEAS is a model used to quantify the environmental and human impact of all pesticides applied in a vineyard.
Founded in 1990, McManis Family Vineyards is owned by fourth generation farmers, Ron & Jamie McManis.
