Shadow Springs Vineyard of Hamptonville, Cypress Bend Vineyards of Wagram and Honeygirl Meadery in Durham took home Best of Show awards in the North Carolina State Fair Commercial Wine Competition.
Shadow Spring Vineyard’s 2019 Petit Verdot – Swan Creek AVA earned Best Bunch Grape Wine Category honors.
Cypress Bend Vineyard’s “Autumn” NV – Carlos/Noble Red Muscadine took Best Muscadine Wine Category honors.
Honeygirl Meadery’s Strawberry/Cranberry 2021 – NC Wildflower Honey Mead earned Best Fruit/Honey/Other Category honors.
Judging took place Oct. 11 at the Angus Barn in Raleigh. The Best of Show winners were selected from about 235 wines that were previously judged and awarded medals based on merit for Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze. There was no limit to the number of medals awarded in each category. Judges measured wines based on overall quality.
The Best of Show winners will be displayed at Dorton Arena during the NC State Fair through Oct. 23.
